Senseless Riots, Reservations and Privatisation in India.

There was senseless riots and meaningless death last week... The death of actor rajkumar and the ensuing riots by and the meangingless death due to police firing was just too horrible and needless . I was also surprised to find that many Companies(mostly S/W) declared a holiday following rajkumar's death. This is a significant thing considering the workoholic culture of Indian S/W companies. Maybe the S/W companies anticipated significant threats and riots following the death.. which makes me think whether the death of an old famous actor is such a scary thing to the local Indian society?

The other news that pissed me off last week was the proposal to introduce reservations in IIT and IIM. If that comes about that would take the remaining credibility in the Indian Education System. Rediff is conducting a survey about this and asks its readers to take part and give their opinions and be heard so that the Government changes its mind... I personally think nobody can stop this stupid rule if the political forces decide to go ahead..I just hope that better sense prevails in the deciding authority.

I was also glad to see the news about the privatisation of Electricity board in Maharashtra..Reliance, Tata and all other major players are in fray to build a new plant to provide electricty...The existing plant is still controlled by the government but still this is a good step in the right direction.

Finally I found this observation by my finance professor very interesting and very true. He says that poor people in socialist countries are more poorer than poor people in capitalist countries. This is absolutely very true from my observations here. The prime reason being the social security and the unemployment and the homeless benefits here. This again vindicated my strong thinking that India should open up more and do a lot more privatisation and get rid of the workers unions and stuffs like that.

I found this article very interesting.. If you have time please read...
